Herniated disc: how Pilates helps

Just hearing «herniated disc» is enough for many people to recognise themselves.

It is a common lower-back injury, caused mostly by the natural wear of the vertebrae, repetitive movements or too much physical strain. It is diagnosed more and more often, even in young people.

The good news: the great majority of cases need no surgery. They are treated with non-invasive methods, and Pilates is one of the best known.

Why it works

  • It strengthens the muscles around the spine, so they hold it better.
  • It improves your everyday posture.
  • Gentle movements stretch and add flexibility, which lowers the pressure on the discs and eases the pain.

How we do it at Breath

In every class the instructor follows you and adapts the exercises to your condition — to prevent and to treat, towards a healthier life without pain.
