The 6 principles of Pilates: practice with purpose
· 1 min read
In Pilates, every movement has an intention. Six principles complement one another and give every exercise its meaning.
The six principles
- Breathing: every exercise follows the breath; it sets the rhythm.
- Centring: movement starts from the centre, the abdominals, the lower back, the hips and the glutes.
- Concentration: attention on every movement, from start to finish.
- Control: body and mind in charge of every gesture, without haste or momentum.
- Precision: the right form is worth more than the number of repetitions.
- Flow: continuous movement, without jolts, from one exercise to the next.
Because quality lies in every detail
That is what makes the practice far more than movement. In every class at Breath, the instructor helps you feel these principles in every exercise.
